Hudong Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation. It is a world-class marine power equipment enterprise integrating R&D, manufacturing and service.

The company's predecessor can be traced back to 1958 - the machine building workshop of Hudong Shipyard. On May 12, 1998, Hudong Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd. was unveiled. On July 30, 2007, the company name was changed to "China State Shipbuilding Corporation". On October 30, 2007, upon consideration and approval at the general meeting of shareholders of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, a limited company was established with the original diesel engine business and related assets as capital contributions. On December 7, 2007, Hudong Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd. was formally established.

After nearly 60 years of trials and hardships and historical accumulation, Hudong Heavy Machinery has grown into the most powerful marine power equipment enterprise in China. With the expansion of the company's scale and the continuous expansion of business, the company's subsidiaries include CSSC Power Research Institute Co., Ltd., Shanghai CSSC Mitsui Shipbuilding Diesel Engine Co., Ltd., Shanghai Hulin Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., Shanghai Hudong Shipbuilding Diesel Engine Supporting Co., Ltd., Shanghai Hudong Shipbuilding Diesel Engine Co., Ltd.
